Dundee United striker named in Scotland squad for Faroe Islands friendly

Dundee United striker David Goodwillie has received his first call-up to the senior Scotland squad for a friendly game against the Faroe Islands on Wednesday, 17 November.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form for his club so far this season, having scored eight goals in 11 appearances across all competitions.

However, Under-21 cap Goodwillie has also been at the centre of controversy. In the early hours of 3 November, he was arrested along with fellow United player Scott Allan following a brawl in Glasgow city centre.

Despite being left out of the starting line-up for the Scottish Premier League match against Hamilton Academical on Saturday as punishment for his alleged role in the incident, Goodwillie came off the bench to score the only goal.

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Danny Wilson and Aston Villa forward Barry Bannan have also been named in a senior Scotland squad for the first time by national team coach Craig Levein after starring for the Scotland Under-21 side.

However, Levein warned all three youngsters that they would have to prove they were worthy of a regular place in the squad with good performances against the Faroes.
He told reporters, "Everybody who is on this list, I have watched and I feel can add something to the Scotland international team. For some of these guys it might not be that imminent, other than this match, but I want to have a look and
get to know some of the guys.

"We have got some younger ones in who have been doing particularly well and it will be interesting to see how they do, not just in the match itself, but also in training."

Goalkeepers Cammy Bell (Kilmarnock) and Matt Gilks (Blackpool) are the other two uncapped players in Levein’s 20-man squad while first-choice stopper Craig Gordon (Sunderland) has returned to the national team set-up after recovering from injury.

Kris Commons (Derby County), Chris Burke (Cardiff City) and Kevin Kyle (Heart of Midlothian) are also returning to the squad.
