Dundee United's Barry Douglas says he can fill Craig Conway void
Dundee United left-back Barry Douglas says that he can fill the gap left by Craig Conway further up the pitch.
Conway is likely to be ruled out of action for several weeks after undergoing a knee operation that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 16 November.
Even though midfielder David Robertson is capable of playing in Conway's left-wing position, Douglas was employed in the role for the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Saturday 13 November and impressed in the role.
As a result, 21-year-old Douglas has insisted that he can step in for Conway while the Scotland cap recovers from his surgery.
Douglas told the Daily Record: "With Craig Conway being out injured it's a chance for me to stake a claim. David Robertson can play there as well but he's naturally a more central midfield player. Hopefully if I'm asked to play there again I can give natural
width to the team.
"I feel comfortable enough in that position. To be honest, I'm confident to play anywhere. It obviously requires a different kind of positional sense but the other boys will keep me right. The gaffer as well speaks to me all the time to make sure I'm right
so I've no worries on that front."
Douglas joined the Scottish Cup holders in the summer when he moved from Scottish Third Division amateur side Queen's Park. Despite fears that the player would take some time to adjust to playing in the top flight, he has played admirably in his five appearances
so far.
The player is pleased with his start to life at Tannadice and hailed manager Peter Houston for showing faith in him.
He said, "I'm very happy with the way I've settled in since joining the club. The gaffer has given me my chance fairly early on so I don't think it could have gone much better up until now.”
