Dundee staff and players still waiting on wages
The staff and players at Dundee have still not received their wages after the club failed to pay the salaries that were due last Thursday.
The club is currently in discussions with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Commission over an outstanding tax bill of £365,000.
The players and staff have now being told that they will only get half of what they are owed on Wednesday.
The Player's Union chief executive Fraser Wishart said, "Our opinion is that the club has fundamentally breached the players' contracts...Why is there money in the bank and yet the club can't pay the wages? That's the fundamental question that hasn't been
answered. We have advised the players to continue to train, but there will come a time when players can't justify training because of the costs involved."
Benefactor Calum Melville had agreed to underwrite a portion of the bill, while a number of local business have pledged £75,000 in the hope that the bill can be paid.
Last month, Melville resigned from his position as chairman, but the businessman seems to be Dundee’s only hope if they are to avoid administration.
Melville has had difficulties as head of the company Cosalt, but he has committed himself to financing and guaranteeing the club’s future for the next three to five years.
Dundee Manager Gordon Chisholm stated, “We can only hope we get our half wages tomorrow and the rest of the balance before the end of the week."
“Reasons were given for it only being half wages, but I'm not going to go into that. I don't think it's fair that it is dragging on. There are a lot of people in the dark here,” added the manager.
The manager did not rule out the possibility of the players and staff striking in the future, but he believes that the situation will reach a positive conclusion before then.
"Hopefully, there will be some sort of conclusion today and, hopefully, it's positive," he added.
