Dundonnell likely to make an appearance at Goodwood – Horseracing News
Dundonnell will make an appearance in Lennox or Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood, after displaying reasonable form in his outing at the Royal Ascot.
Owned by Khalid Abdullah, the talented stallion entered the Ascot race with a starting price of 12 to 1. He looked in control of the proceedings in the opening phases but did not had the stamina to stay in the lead until the end.
Despite that, his camp was pleased with the outcome of the event.
Therefore, they are confident that the three-year-old runner will be a force to reckon with at Goodwood. According to Abdullah’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe, “We are looking at our options for Dundonnell and both the Lennox
Stakes and Thoroughbred Stakes are under consideration. I thought he ran well at Royal Ascot. He did not quite get the run of the race but it was a very high-class race.”
He went onto say, “He got the mile okay and, although he didn't get clearest passage, ran right to the line. He won well over seven furlongs before that so he is versatile but we aren't favouring one race over the other at this
stage and will have a look nearer the time.”
The American horse started off his career in a decent way last year, which encouraged his team to run him in some bigger events. However, he did not find it easy to take on some better runners and struggled to deliver good results
with consistency.
Despite that, it is pretty much clear that Dundonnell has got the ability to battle against the best in the business. He needs a bit of time to reach that level and it was probably too early for him to run at Ascot. Once he gains
some more experience and knows how to handle pressure, he will definitely cause a lot of problems for his rivals with consistency.
Overall, the Roger Charlton’s trainee has taken eight starts and managed to win thrice whereas finished as a runner up once. Moreover, he has got a couple of third place finishes to his name as well, which clearly indicate that
he can earn some good prize money for his owner in the future.
