Dundonnell looks the most striking contestant in One Call Insurance Champagne Stakes at Doncaster
One Call Insurance Champagne Stakes has attracted half a dozen high profile horses at Doncaster on Saturday, September 15th. Except Unsinkable, every participant also has the Racing Post Trophy entry.
It is very hard to write off any name, but Dundonnell’s fresh York form takes high rank in this field. With plenty of experience under his belt, Roger Charlton’s charge is all set to produce a positive result today.
The 2-year-old started professional racing in July, when finishing third in the Weatherbys E B F Maiden Stakes at Newmarket. Although the juvenile failed to spark, there were plenty of positives to extract out.
Owned by Khalid Abdulla, the novice got off the mark at Lingfield, where he was an easy winner in the Burridge Golf & Racing Trophies Median Auction Maiden Stakes at the start of last month. With two stunning efforts at the start of his career, the young
colt showed his readiness for the graded events.
The connections brought him up at the graded level in late August. In the Group 3 Pinsent Masons LLP Acomb Stakes, Dundonnell demonstrated an excellent show in the hands of James Doyle. With the help of an outstanding effort, he ensured the top rank by three
quarters of a length.
After such a brilliant win, he is brimming with confidence. He looked a class act winning the last twice, and has an obvious chance of continuing his progress at the Group 2 level.
Toronado looks the most intriguing alternative. The Richard Hannon-trained is in excellent shape after two classy wins. After proving too good for his rivals at Newbury, he further raised his game to win a Listed race at Royal Ascot in July.
Tha´Ir is unlikely to be far away. The 2-year-old, Saeed Bin Suroor’s trainee, has made a couple of good outings in defeat at the graded level. So, he just needs a slice of luck to stand first.
A three-way battle among Dundonnell, Toronado and Tha´ir is predicted, with the preference for the first-named. Dundonnell’s experience and recent form make him the most solid option in the £46,559, which is scheduled to get started at 14:25 GMT.
