Dunga declares interest in Fiorentina job
Former Brazil manager Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, commonly known as Dunga, has indicated that he would be interested in taking over Serie A club Fiorentina.
The Italian side is rooted to the bottom of the table in the league and has only picked up five points from seven games so far this season.
Sinisa Mihajlovic manages Fiorentina, but it is believed that the board of directors is losing patience with the team’s poor form and that his position at the club is in serious doubt.
Dunga’s agent Antonio Caliendo said that the Brazilian World Cup winner has not being contacted by the Serie A side about taking over, but that a provisional agreement has been put in place.
We agree [with Fiorentina] that we don't want to hear anything until December,” Caliendo told Calciomercato.com.
Dunga resigned from his position as the Brazil manager after the World Cup in South Africa. His team was knocked out in the semi-finals against Holland in what was seen as a failure in Brazil.
Yet, Dunga appears to be on the verge of a return to management and he has being named as the most likely candidate to replace Mihajlovic at Fiorentina.
Caliendo said, “If the Viola were to call tomorrow to offer Dunga the bench, he would not refuse it, but he wants to recharge his batteries after the disappointment of the World Cup.”
“There has been no contact with Fiorentina, but there was contact from Inter during the summer,” added Dunga’s agent.
Dunga appears to be willing to take up the position at Fiorentina. The Brazilian will have his work cut out for him at a club that has struggled this season and has not got vast amounts of money to spend.
Fiorentina has also found it difficult to hold on to their best players. If their form does not improve Mihajlovic is likely to be sacked.
Dunga has stated his interest, but this could be a difficult managerial role if he is offered the job.
