  1. Amazon is as good a place as any; you will also likely find out at specialty stores such as Cardhaus.com.

However, you should be warned that the 'starter' sets you will currently find are for 3rd edition D&D, and totally incompatible with the brand new (and IMHO quite a bit neater) 4th edition D&D.  They have not released a 4th edition starter kit yet, and you would need to buy at least the Player's Handbook to get the rules for that.

A 4th edition starter kit has been announced as being in the works, but I'm not sure when the release will be.

  2. Try a Borders, Barnes and Noble, or Walden Books store.  Any large book store chain is likely to carry it.

MOST game specialty stores will also carry it, but since I don't know where you live I can't tell you what to look for.  Also try comic shops, hobby stores,  and related specialty stores.

Try http://www.wizards.com  you might be able to get a list of local dealers through them.

  3. Gaming shops, comic book stores.  Hobby shops. On-line easy Ebay, or book stores.
