Duplicity of skills provides Miami Dolphins, RB Lamar Miller more options -NFL News
The Miami Dolphins aim for a multi-position utility of rookie running back, Lamar Miller, who has recently been given a contract, following his selection during the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28.
In addition to placing him at his natural running back position, the management intends to use Miller on the special teams and the player is said to be already well-versed with it.
He has played into both roles in the college league, achieving almost identical records.
Dolphins selected Miller in fourth round of the draft for 97th position overall.
Miller is a local player, coming from the University of Miami, the headquarters of his pro team.
He played the college league football for Hurricanes, two years as a letterman and one year as a starter.
In total, he played 23 games while starting 13. His record consisted of 1,918 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns.
Miller also caught 28 passes for 181 yards and one score, while his safety teams’ record includes 15 kickoff returns for 376 yards and one touchdown.
While in the pro career his main position remains to be the running back, the team looks to make use of him on the safety position more effectively.
The duplicity of his skills provides the team with an opportunity to switch him between the two positions as and when a need arises or the coaches find him performing better on any of the two.
Miller comes out to be a notable signing by Dolphins after rookie QB, Ryan Tannehill.
In terms of opportunities, Miller stands having more of them than the QB as the latter faces stiff competition from the incumbent QB, Matt Moore, and the recently signed veteran, David Garrard.
Miller, meanwhile, has everything open before him and his skills on the two different positions give him more depth and options.
As it sounds from the hustle bustle at the headquarters, the Miami Dolphins are excited about the prospects of benefiting from the player. His form will certainly aid the team’s rebuilding efforts.
