Duran/ Molteni wipe out Barriga/ Endara in 1st round - Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Unseeded Argentinean pair of Guillermo Duran with Andres Molteni surmounted unseeded pair of Luis Diaz-Barriga with Ivan Endara in the doubles first round of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
The two crews were meeting for the first time and took up the swords on outdoor clay courts of the Guayaquil Tenis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After duelling for one hour and twelve minutes the Argentinean pair got rid of Mexican Barriga along with Ecuadorian Endara in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 on the 21st of November 2011.
In the first set of the match the players matched a blow for a blow and both the teams were good competition. However, by capitalizing on one more breakpoint than their adversaries the Argentinean couple bagged the opening set.
The Mexican/ Argentinean pair had hit a 77 percent of their first serves on target while, Duran/ Molteni hit a 76 percent. However, the Argentinean duo had managed to accomplish an ostentatious 88 percent of their first service points while; Barriga/ Endara only attained a 67 percent of their first service points in the initial round.
However, during the second set Duran/ Molteni not only had a good service game but also worked on their return and this time they were able to accomplish a forty seven percent of their total return points.
Nonetheless, opening the second round of the match was the Argentinean couple and they got off to a good start as they not only held their service game but also capitalized on an early break in the second game to take a mini lead on the scoreboard.
On the other hand, Barriga/ Endara made a return by breaking immediately in the third game to reduce the deficit to 1-2. At the end of the fourth game the deficit was completely mitigated by the Mexican/ Ecuadorian mix with a hold of serve to equalize the score at two games each.
In the following four games the players matched a blow for a blow and the score kept tied at three games each by the sixth game and finally at four games each by the end of the eighth game. It was in the ninth game that Barriga/ Endara had double faulted on their second serve and endorsed a crucial game to their adversaries.
Mean while, as the Argentinean duo served for the match, they smashed a marvellous backhand winner to secure the set and the match. Next up for Duran/ Molteni is the Italian pair of Gianluca Naso with Matteo Viola.
