India’s ever so popular coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 is confident that his side will bounce back in the second Test against South Africa at Durban this Sunday, even after the visitors were handed a humiliating defeat of an innings and twenty five runs in their first
Test at Centurion last week.
While speaking to the media, Kirsten said, “We’ve got to apply ourselves, we got to assess the situation and see what can we get out of this wicket as a batting unit. I thought we were hundred runs short in the last Test match. The preparation for this tour
has been really good, the guys are working as hard as they have ever worked and I am happy from that point of view. At the end of the day, they’ve got to get on the field and go and make a play out there. The players are determined; they are really motivated
for this tour. They are going to give it their best shot, that’s all we can ask of the players.”
The Indian team reached Kingsmead on Thursday after a two day vacation at Sun City, which is South Africa’s most famous tourist resort. The players made full use of their vacation to relieve the stress of defeat in the first Test.
On Thursday, the players practiced in the nets during an evening session where Kirsten focused on identifying and removing the weaknesses in them. Kirsten has high hopes from his boys and believes that an opening defeat in the series doesn’t matter much
as long as his squad manages to bounce back in the second Test, come this Boxing Day.
Talking about the Kingsmead pitch, Kirsten said that he hadn’t been on the pitch and will have to wait and see how it develops in the coming days before the game.
The Indian coach revealed that the pace bowler Zaheer Khan was finally fit and all set to take on the Proteas. Kirsten is confident that his team has the bowling firepower to knock the experienced South African batsmen out in the upcoming clash.
He said, “We have shown in the last three years that we have the ability to get 20 wickets in any conditions. It’s up to us to prove to ourselves and everyone else that we can do that. It is nice to have Zaheer back; we look forward to whatever conditions
are given to us knowing that we have some quality in our bowling line-up.”
