Durham captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183 hoping for an arrangement with Hampshire – Cricket News Update
Durham captain Phil Mustard is hoping for an arrangement with the Hampshire side after rain-effected most of the County Championship Division match at Chester-le-Street.
With both sides needing points, Mustard is hoping that a deal of some sort is reached with acting opposition captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Adams-c1696, in order to get a result of match.
Only 83 overs have been bowled in three days, with Hampshire side posting 230 on the board.
A draw will suit neither party as both want wins, though, for different reasons. As Durham sit on top of the Division One table, they hope to get maximum 17 points from the game, in order to boost their chances of a third Championship title in four years.
As for Hampshire, they too require a win desperately, as they are rock bottom of the table with just 49 points, which still leave them with another 50 to save their Division One status.
"I think they are quite keen to do something," said Mustard. "We were tempted to try for full bonus points, which would have put us 17 points clear at the top.
"But we don't have time to get them and our rivals have games in hand, so we would like to go for a win if possible. It's in our favour that we are batting last and we would try to knock off a target."
Only 30 overs were bowled on Day 1, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Callum-Thorp-c1211 taking a brace.
As the play resumed, the batting side added 153 and lost another 3 to move to 230 for 6, after bad light ended day’s play at 4.58pm local time.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rushworth-c1250, edging behind the stumps.
A quick-fire 50 off 66 balls by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912 helped put some life into the proceedings but soon after his wicket, play was stop due to bad light.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 will be hoping for a result as they stand 8 points on top of their closest rivals, Lancashsire.
