The visitors didn’t get off to an ideal start, losing opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376, followed him after adding 22 runs to the total.
Middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Stokes-c1142, looked solid in the middle, but was also unable to carry onto the start to his innings, as he was dismissed after scoring 33 runs for his side.
However, Durham’s opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-Benkenstein-c1302, held the innings together and scored a brilliant partnership of 273 runs for the fourth wicket. The pair didn’t play any rash strokes and put the opposition bowlers on the
back foot.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 top scored the innings with 179 runs off 363 balls. He struck 28 fours in his marathon innings, which finally came to an end after the team had reached 400 runs. Benkenstein also batted sensibly, scoring 128 runs, hitting 15 boundaries in his knock.
Middle-order players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Blackwell-c1569 and Mustard, took advantage of the solid platform laid by their top-order batsmen. Both played aggressive cricket and guided the team’s total above 600.
Blackwell scored 99 runs from just 94 balls with the help of five fours and four thunderous sixes. Mustard, who remained unbeaten on 71 off 94 balls, declared the innings with the dismissal of Blackwell.
The wicket seemed to have nothing for the bowlers in it, but Irish bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WB-Rankin-c2785 managed to pick up a couple of wickets for his team.
In reply to the massive first innings total of the visitors, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745, looked impressive and scored 79 runs whereas the rest of the team was below par.
Stokes was the pick of the bowlers for his team, taking four wickets in the innings for the visitors.
Following on, the hosts were yet again in trouble, losing three wickets for just 35 runs on the board and Stokes was once again impressive, dismissing two batsmen.
