Middlesex lead by 42 runs with three wickets in hand against Durham at stumps, on the first day of the four-day match between the two sides.
On winning the toss, Middlesex chose to field first at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, in a bid to restrict Durham on a small total.
Durham openers MD Stoneman and WR http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 failed to amass a big total, as the opening partnership came to an end with just three runs on the board, with Smith faltering without scoring.
With 18 runs on the board, the batting side suffered the loss of their second wicket when, GJ Muchall, ran out after scoring just six runs.
Disaster struck when star performer, BA Stokes, lost his wicket on a duck, leaving his team standing on a tally of 18.
Things were getting too hot for Durham to handle, as they required a strong batting performance from the remaining batsmen to counter the opposition.
However, with only 24 runs on the board, the side saw their fourth wicket go down when Stoneman, was caught behind, after scoring a knock of 14 runs.
DM Benkenstein and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PD-Collingwood-c2173 then came to the rescue, as they tried to forge an intimidating partnership to subdue the opposition's onslaught.

Middlesex had a decent start to their innings, as openers CJL Rogers and SD Robson clobbered a stand of 34 runs.
However, the side suffered a batting collapse in the middle, with four batsmen failing to score in double figures.
Meanwhile, Rogers was the highest scorer with a knock of 59 runs to his name, as the side ended the day with 144 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
