Durham v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 - County Championship Division One – Day 3 – Live Cricket Score and Update
Nottinghamshire 161 & 335 v Durham 129 & 203/9 (59.0 ov) - Durham require another 165 runs with 1 wicket remaining
Saturday, April 14: Durham require 165 runs to win the four-day match against Nottinghamshire in the County Championship Division One, after they were hammered for 335 runs by Nottinghamshire at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
Needing 368 runs to win the match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 started their second innings with almost 59 overs of play remaining in the day and then the whole fourth day to chase down the mammoth total.
However, they needed to retain wickets in order to successfully complete their run chase, otherwise the task was nearly impossible as Nottinghamshire carried the fire power in their bowling arsenal capable enough of bowling out even the strongest of batting attacks in the world.
And this is exactly what happened, as Nottinghamshire made early inroads by grabbing their first wicket with only seven runs on the board as Durham opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Di-Venuto-c1954, perished after posting only six runs.
Then later with 20 runs on the board, the batting side suffered the loss of their second wicket when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Will-Smith-c2794 failed to play a big innings and fell on 10 runs off 49 deliveries.
A run later, the third wicket fell as, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Stoneman-c1910, found his way back to the pavilion after scoring only two runs.
With 30 runs on the board, the star of Durham’s first innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Stokes-c1142, became the fifth casualty of the day, as he could muster only seven runs before walking back to the pavilion.
In these dire circumstances, Durham were bogged down and were in a difficult situation, as after losing five wickets, the idea of chasing down the huge total was no longer on the cards, and the matter of surviving the day had taken priority.
Durham now needed to keep wickets in hand before stumps on the penultimate day in order to take the match to the final day of play.
29-year-old, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183, then pulled off an astounding knock of 80 runs as the lower-order tried to salvage the match.
At stumps, Durham managed to post 203 runs for the loss of nine wickets and are now heading for the imminent defeat as Nottinghamshire need one more wicket to win the game.
