After getting bulldozed for 161 runs in their first innings by the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, Nottinghamshire bounced back in their second innings on day-three of the four-day match and are now on the verge of victory at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
After clobbering 231 runs for the loss four wickets at stumps on the second day, Nottinghamshire resumed their innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 on 104 and CMW Read on five.
While Durham were desperate to break this partnership in the first hour of the day, the batsmen were least intimidated and stood with confidence in a bid to humiliate the bowling side on the penultimate day of the match.
Finally in the 91st over, Durham grabbed their first wicket of the day by dismissing Read, who faltered after scoring 29 runs.
With Read back in the pavilion, Lumb kept his nerve and forged an outstanding innings of 131 runs. His knock was extremely important in Nottinghamshire’s innings as it laid the foundation for a mammoth tally later.
Meanwhile, the batsman faltered, leaving the side standing on 293 runs. And after the demise of the star batsman, the lower-order, kept pressure on the fielding side as the batsmen belted the bowlers all around the park, aiming to post runs quickly in the day to sail towards an imminent win, by bowling out Durham in their second innings.
Durham made a late comeback in the match, but with Nottinghamshire’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Adams-c1033 on the crease, the batting side kept cool and headed towards a big total, faltering after amassing 335 runs on the board.
Adams contributed 22 runs before his demise in the 105th over, leaving his side standing on 332 runs.
After playing 107 overs, Nottinghamshire achieved complete superiority in the match and now will be aiming to bowl-out the opposition well under the required target.
Durham on the other hand, have their work cut out for them and will have to pull off an astounding batting performance in order to save the game.
