Durham batted first and posted 325 runs on the board for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 40 overs. Collingwood was the star of the innings, scoring 96 runs in quick time. His score remained the highest of the match overall.
Surrey did have the batting power to chase the target down, but failed to keep wickets in tact. The team was all out for 289 runs in 36.3 overs with the highest score coming from middle-order batsman Matthew Spriegel, who ended up with 86.
Earlier, Durham’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-Benkenstein-c1302 decided to bat first after winning the toss. He predicted a high scoring game, as the conditions were perfect for batting. The pitch was absolutely hard and dry and remained same throughout the day.
The visitors’ innings was started by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183. The pair put together 72 runs for the first wicket before the former was sent back to the pavilion after adding 15 runs to the total.
Mustard was absolutely on fire, as he smashed the bowlers to all parts of the park. The flamboyant opener got out after contributing 66 runs to the total from 31 deliveries with the help of 13 fours and one massive six.
The innings was carried forwards nicely from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Stoneman-c1910 and Collingwood, as the two collected 56 runs for the third wicket partnership. The former failed to make most of the start to his innings and was dismissed after collecting 27 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Di-Venuto-c1954 was the next man to be dismissed in the innings. He managed 12 runs in his short stay at the crease.
However, the former English Twenty20 skipper continued to play aggressively. He scored 96 runs off 83 balls before getting out. Durham reached a massive total of 325 runs due to the excellent performance of their batsmen.
Surrey’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-John-Schofield-c50881 picked up three wickets in the match, but the rest of the bowlers were below par.
In reply, the hosts got off to a struggling start, losing three wickets early for 65 runs on the board. However, Tom Maynard scored 56 runs in quick time, gaining some momentum.
His innings was followed by a couple of decent performances from Spriegel and Schofield. They scored 86 and 46 in their respective outings, but lacked support from their team-mates.
Surrey was all out for 289 runs in the end. They could have won the match had they kept wickets in tact.
