Durham v Sussex - County Championship Division One – Day 3 – Live Score and Update
Sussex 211 & 180 v Durham 227 & 167/5 (48.2 ov) - Durham won by 5 wickets
Durham on Thursday, wrapped up the four-day match against Sussex by five wickets in the ongoing County Championship Division One tournament, at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
Resuming their second innings from the overnight tally of 112 for five, Sussex were completely outplayed on the penultimate day, and where they could have avoided a defeat with a day still remaining, they lacked the commitment needed to stage a formidable batting resurgence.
The day’s proceedings were disastrous for Sussex, as after the addition of only a run, the side lost their first wicket of the day with LWP Wells getting caught behind on 51.
Brown was then joined by WA Adkin and while Durham might have sought an early wicket after the demise of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 opener, the two lower-order batsmen - defying all odds – steered the side to a total of 140 before Adkin was trapped in front of stumps off Rushworth on six runs.
In his next over, the bowler got the wicket of Brown in a similar fashion, as the batsman, walked back to the pavilion after jabbing 30 off 81 deliveries.
The bowler then grabbed two more wickets to end Sussex’s second innings, finishing with five wickets to his name in 13.2 overs.
Requiring 165 to win, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 clobbered an opening stand of 17 before suffering the loss of their first wicket on the demise of KK Jennings, who was caught by Yardy off Hatchett after scoring only a run.
MD Stoneman and MJ Richardson then forged a partnership that took the score to 34, before LJ Hatchett bowled-out Stoneman on 26.
With two men down, Sussex were not making things any easier for Durham as the only way for the fielding side to win was to keep taking wickets.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Richardson-c76428 and star batsman BA Stokes forged a match-winning partnership, as they smacked the bowlers all around the park in a bid to end the game a day earlier with the duo taking the score to 101 before Stokes, departed after hammering an innings of 45 runs.
With 150 on the board, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 was also removed after he had belted a knock of 58, but by this time it was too late for Sussex as the batting side reached the target in 48.2 overs for the loss of five wickets.
