http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 197 - Durham lead by 108 runs with 8 wickets remaining
Wednesday, June 06: At stumps on the second day of play between Durham and Warwickshire, Durham have secured a lead of 108 runs with eight wickets in hand at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
The day belonged to the bowlers as they dominated the batsmen with fans witnessing spectacular play from both teams.
Durham resumed their first innings from 228 runs for the loss of five wickets with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Harrison-c64855 on nil.
The batsmen were the last recognized batting pair and knew that they needed to steadfast and score as many runs possible in order to put their side in a better position by the end of their first innings.
However, this was a bad day for Durham as Collingwood departed without adding a single run to his overnight tally, bringing pressure on Durham from the start.
This was a bad omen for the team as they needed a better start to the second day of their innings in order to post a staggering total.
With 230 runs on the board, the side suffered the loss of their second wicket of the day when Harrison perished without scoring a run.
The way the two batsmen failed, it put enormous pressure on the team and it was now upon the lower-order to show strength and hammer the bowlers and stay around for a while.
Skipper P Mustard then bulldozed the bowlers as he smashed 25 runs in the dying moments of the innings to play a crucial role in helping the side amass 277 runs.
Warwickshire then began their first stint with the bat as opener V Chopra (29) and IJ Westwood (36) smashed a stand of 61 runs, showing colours against the bowling attack.
However, the demise of the openers triggered a batting collapse with C Rushworth wrecking havoc on the batsmen. The bowler was just too good for the batsmen to handle as he finished with figures of five wickets, playing a dominating role in bringing an end to Warwickshire’s first innings on 197 runs.
Seeking to do well the second time around, Durham lost two wickets and scored 28 runs at stumps after facing 11 overs.
