The third day of play between Durham and Warwickshire was marred by rain, preventing a full day’s play; nonetheless, Durham made full use of the time they were on the field as they bolstered 147 runs for the loss of seven wickets and gained a lead of 227 runs by stumps at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
Resumng their second innings from a tally of 28 with two wickets down, Durham came out with GJ Muchall and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Harrison-c64855 in order to leave their opponents in a spot of bother by bolstering an impressive second innings tally after they had already belted 277 runs in their first innings.
However, with Warwickshire responding with 197 in their first innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 needed to better their position.
Both Muchall and Harrison started the day tentatively in order to prevent the opposition from making early inroads under the dark clouds.
Looking at the weather, the players on both teams knew that they were playing on borrowed time and needed to give an optimum performance before the expected showers coming down.
Muchall was the first to lose his wicket as he perished after scoring an innings of 17 runs, leaving his side standing on a total of 41 runs.
It was then star batsman, BA Stokes’ turn to take the field as he forged a commendable alliance with Harrison to knock the sting out of the bowling side.

The two batsmen exhibited great resolve as they countered the offensive launched by the bowling side.
With 106 runs on the board, the partnership met its demise on the wicket of Benkenstein, who belted a knock of 21 runs.
Meanwhile, Collingwood stayed unbeaten on a tally of 29 alongside SG Borthwick for 15 as play came to an end.
