If It was pulled, how could I have finished the remaining 2 miles? Also, I have a 10K in a few months, I would like to get my calf better soon!

  1. its possible you just didn't stretch before you ran and you were straining the muscle. in any case, talk to your doctor about it

  2. Remember to always warm up and stretch, especially for shorter distances like a 5k. Don't be afraid to get your heart rate up a bit right before the beginning of the race - let your body know what's going on. Do not start a race cold, straight out of your sweats/blanket, without warming up. You will pull muscles, you will be miserable, it will hurt worse.

Before your 10k, try running some hills or stairs to help strengthen your calf muscles. Once a week is plenty, and it will help build speed as well. Always stay hydrated, you may have just cramped up in your race. Stretch it out, be gentle.

Good luck with your 10k. Calf muscles are buggers when they hurt.
