During a golf swing, should the left leg be straightened out?

For a right handed person's golf swing, should the left leg "post up" and straighten out during the down swing? Perhaps not immediately, but what should the left leg be like before impact, at impact, and after impact on the follow through? Thanks

  1. It is up to you.

    The most important is you can shoot in your won posture.

    But I suggest your left leg is a little bent before impact. It may help you relax and swing naturally


  2. I don't think it really matters wether the leg is a little bent just before impact but it should be straight on your follow through.

  3. As a right hander, I was always taught that I had to hit against a firm left side during the downswing and follow thru. The side is firm just prior to impact as well as after impact when the force turns the front of the body to face the intended target line..

  4. Yes it should be fairly straight just before impact.

  5. It should be fairly straight and not to much bent forward.

  6. During the impact, your knee should stay slightly bended, and on the follow through, that's the time you can slightly straighten your knee.

Tough one.  I would say your leg always has a slight bend to it and only comes close to straight at the very end of the swing.  I'd go and have a lesson if you were worried about it.  Remember that doing things correctly can feel weird at first but stick with it until it feels normal and you've developed good habits.  People can have very different swings so sometimes it's just a case of going with what works.  That may mean some people have more bent legs than others.  I would concentrate mostly on your arm action and ensuring you're getting the correct swing plane.  Slightly out to in for a fade & in to out for a draw.  Leg movements will happen naturally to a large extent after that.  At address just bend your knees a little as if you're sitting on a bar stool & it's comfortable.  Hope that helps :)

  8. If I get your question......the leg left leg should be slightly flexed before impact......Either slightly flexed or straight during impact and straight  on follow through.   the answer is about as clear as the question I suppose.
