I'm in a very bad mental state, and my parents are going away in a few weeks, and will be gone for 3 weeks. I'm not sure how i'm going to deal with this... i'm pretty isolated where I live. So just in preparation, if I have a mental breakdown while i'm alone and it's the middle of the night, can I call 999? Because of my depression and anxiety, I can't drive, so I wont be able to get myself to the nearest hospital (30 minutes away).

I know my parents shouldn't leave me alone while i'm like this, but they booked their holiday months ago, when I was well...

  1. Yes if you have to. But still let your parents know because in the end your parents holiday can wait, your life cant.

  2. Yes, I think you should be able to. I would go to a docor before hand so maybe you can be put on some medication so you won't freak out as bad when your alone.

  3. Yes, if you feel like that while they are away ring 999

They will be able to make sure your ok and look after you until your mum n dad get back

  4. You sure c an if you feel like you are going to be a threat to your self, but while your parents are gone try to enjoy yourself. Watch movies, eat popcorn. It might be nice to have them not breathing down your back. Good luck.

  5. When I am in a crisis, I walk to A&E, or take the bus. Either way takes an hour. I can't drive because I'm on antipsychotics and I hallucinate. But seeing as your A&E is 30 minutes DRIVE away, I would suggest either get a taxi there or a bus.

If you really can't take a bus or a taxi, then by all means call 999. They will help you and when you get to A&E, you get fast-tracked through the whole waiting process because you came by ambulance (so in a way its better to call 999).

  6. See a doctor as soon as possible so that you can have a check up while your parents are still there and if you need medications they can be prescribed while you still have transport to get them.

  7. NHS direct can provide advice in an emergency as well. Number is 0845 4647

Cant you have someone to come and stay with you some of the time, if you're worried about coping on your own?

  8. Yes if you feel youre at risk of harming yourself then its perfectly acceptable and ok to call 999.

What would be even better though is if you could find out the number for your local mental health Crisis Team. That is who the police would usually refer you onto anyway.  If you dont know who they are they are community teams who work 24/7 and go out to people in emergencies in their own home and help to keep them safe at home.  They can also assess if a hospital admission is needed.  You can find out your number for your crisis team through your GP or by calling your local mental health trust, getting the number off the net.

Alternatively, are there any relatives or friends you can go and stay with for that time.

Take care, you can always email me if you're feeling really down :)

  9. Yes, if you feel that your life is in danger or that you may come to harm please call 999.  Are you in contact with a mental health team? If so, they may be able to provide you with some numbers and also the number for a CPN on call (community psych nurse) who may be able to help you through.

    Wishing you well <3

  10. tell ur mom and dad
