thanks for answers so far!

specifically, on a landline, no cordless.

if its to do with the call being recording (during a radio interview for instance) where does the beep come from? the radio station?

if its a billing/time issue, is it in the phone like answers already state, or from the telco?

props will be given for links to more info too!

  4. 3 main possibilities

    - the phone is being recorded

    -the battery is low

-you are on a pay phone on the money you deposited is about to run out.

  5. Usually it is either you have call waiting and another call is coming in, or if you are using a cell phone it is signaling the minutes. Or yes it could be you have a low battery, again depending on the type of phone being used.

  6. call waiting or dying battery on a cordless. Start your message if you called an answering machince or a person's voice mail.

  7. a phone usually has a time setting i assume you mean a cell by the way that beep comes in set intervals to let you know how long you have been on the phone for most phones its about every 30 sec to a minute it can be turned off you just have to find it in the settings i used to hate that feature

  11. It usually means your conversation is being recorded, if it is a land line, and not a cordless phone with the battery  dying.

  12. This is  called minutes minder. Beep sound  reminds you of call duration at the end of every one minute or two minutes or three minutes ( as it has been set by the service provider).

This facility is also available in all mobile phones.

  16. Recorded calls used to require a beep tone by law and may still do in some areas. You can even purchase a device from the source listed to make the sound if you record the call. I don't hear the beep tone, but usually a recording that a call may be recorded or monitored for quality assurance. If the beep tone is emitted by the call center it is possible that the PBX only emits the tone one way so the call center people don't have to listen to it all day.

  17. uh theres a setting on cell phones, it will do that every minute or something, you can change it though
