During a storm, is it possible to get struck by lightning while on your laptop?

  1. yes it is, lightning can affect all electronics whether wired or wireless. It probably struck an antenna or something nearby and spiked through the airwaves.

    other possibilities.. if you're connected to the internet.. doesn't it use a line from your telephone connection?

    as i know.. lightning could hit the phone line and travel though the line..


  2. Yes, if you're outside under a tree maybe.

    If you're inside the house the lightning won't travel through the power cable and up to your laptop to shock you but a fuse might blow.

    It's a different thing if you're talking on your phone or showering during a lightning storm. Saw it on an episode of Mythbusters.

  3. If your laptop is plugged in, and the building you're in is hit by lightning, then yes, you could get shocked from lightning going through the power line.  If it's not plugged in, then it wouldn't matter.
