I will be conducting a short lesson on the components of an accent like intonation, liaisons and pronunciation and I just need some tips on how to handle questions that I may not know the answers to. I'm sure that because this is for a job application, the panel will be grilling me and as much as I've prepared for it, I'm afraid that they may have questions that I wouldn't be able to answer.

  1. You might say "I'll check that out and get back to you".  It's what you would do in a normal classroom, so presumably you can say the same thing in the practice session.

  2. Say "Thats a great question, I hope that this job will help me answer it"

"To be honest I am not sure of the answer to that question"

    Q. How do I answer an interview question that I don't really know the answer to?

    A. When you are asked a question in an interview that either you truly don't know the answer to or are not quite sure of the answer, be honest and respond that you don't know the answer to the question, but would research it and get back to the interviewer shortly. Don't try to plow your way through it by the seat of your pants because it will be very obvious to the interviewer that you don't know the answer.
