Other than race day, which days (with track activity) "...can't be missed", and which would you "not really care about"; or sacrifice to attend something else happening in Indianapolis?

  1. Carb day is definitely the next do not miss day!

  2. For this year, it's definitely all of them!  In the past, I honestly didn't care that much as it was devoid of drama or interest to me. Now, with everyone under the same roof so to speak, everything excites me.  Practice, qualifying, Bump Day-hopefully a real one-it's all good.

  3. I'll say Pole Day & Bump Day...But that green flag is awesome.. and I know everyone is gonna give me a thumbs down for this, but nothing like Jim Nabors singing Back Home Again in Indiana, don't know if he will make it this yr due to health problems, its just a Indy traditional.. I hope they have a great bump day this yr......AND PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE...NO RAIN PLEASE..

    Go Helio!!!!

  4. I'll give you a few:

** Pole Day:  C'mon ... in every other motor sports race, there is *NO* race that has more prestige in claiming the pole than Indianapolis.  And with the additional bumping that goes on each day of qualifications, there's much much more drama.

** Bump Day:  The cards have been laid on the table.  You know the numbers you need to make, and with $50,000 going to the last official qualifier this year, there's money to be made.  Time to ride the razor fine line between glory and catastrophe.

** Community Day:  On Wednesday before race:  IMS does it right - they open the place up.  People can drive their own cars on the track.  Family activities.  Kid-friendly.  A big-time autograph session.  Concerts.  Food.  It's a great day off with the family.

** Carb Day:  On Friday before race:  Final practice before the race, so teams dial in their final race-day settings.  Freedom 100 (FIR race) - 40 laps of fun!  Pit Stop Competition (and bragging rights) ... CCWS & ICS teams are even here ... bragging rights for all.  And, Stone Temple Pilots in concert?!? Are you kidding, and for only $10 for everything.  Best $10 you'll spend in 2008!

Probably the "sleepiest" day at the track will be Day 3 of Qualifications.  Usu. the big-dog teams have already qualified, and you might see them work on some race-day setups, but you might not (depending on conditions)  Day 3 is when the one-off teams possibly get in.  Now ... that's been in the past.  This year with 27 regulars, there is at least 5 regular drivers that would have to qualify on the 2nd weekend.  So - it could be different.

I went to ROP and the opening of the track for the first time this year.  I can imagine in years past, it was boring (with a few rookies, and a few refreshers).  This year with 13 "rookies" (they aren't rookies - just "first time participants"), track activity was just as enjoyable as a regular practice.

Anyway, there's a few thoughts.  I haven't made it to the "bring your dog to the track" day that's usu. before opening weekend before.  I'd also like to attend the celebration ceremony on the following Monday sometime, because I've heard that's fun, too.

  5. june 1

  6. bump day is my fave by far

  7. I would definitely say Carb day is a must see.  You are able to bear witness to IndyCar practice, the Freedom 100 and the pitstop challenge.  The days of qualifying would come in a close second and any day with just IndyCar practice would come in third.

  8. The parade

  9. For me, besides the race, Bump Day always holds tension and drama. Odds are someone will make their first Indy 500, while someone else gets their dreams crushed. After Bump Day, it's time to focus on race preparations for everybody.

  10. ladies, gentlemen, START YOUR ENGINES DAY!
