  1. its especially important for the tower divers, because when you are standing 10m above the water, it is almost impossible to know exactly where the water begins. when the water is calm/completely smooth, all you see is the bottom of the pool and not the surface, so this stream of water is used to break the surface of the water to help the divers know the distance to the water


  2. so they cant see their reflection or see how high they r....

    then they wont be scared

  3. it helps the divers better see where the water is so they can see when they're going to hit the water, letting them know when to execute certain parts of their dive (when to flip and how much, etc)

    also, it breaks the surface tension so if they hit the water wrong it doesn't hurt as much
