  1. Exactly what LAVADOG said, with the addition of if you get on a MEU or are stationed overseas you'll get to see a lot of things that most Americans never will.  I was stationed in Iceland for a year and had a great time.  We went to France for the Belleu Wood ceremony and spent a week, Norway for a month, Scotland for 5 weeks, England for 6 weeks, Spain for 3 weeks for training.  I was also able to take leave and go see my cousins in Ireland for 2 weeks.

  2. I'm just a lowly poolee, but a good buddy of mine has been in for a few years, and all he tells me are drinking stories. Plus he is back home visiting all the time.

From what I am told, it's just a normal job pretty much, but you work longer hours and harder. From what I'm told, you play just as hard.

  3. Personal life is exactly what you make of it....I was in the USMC infantry and we had alot of free time..

Its not what many think..Your life is not controlled..You live a life just as you do as a civilian..

  4. Your family life will suffer. You are away from your loved ones for long periods of time, working long hours and basically what the military wants and needs comes first, which is something alot of people have a hard time with because it is natural to put your family first. You don't get home that often to see your parents or friends, you can forget about most holidays and birthdays and things like that.
