Dushevina/ Voskoboeva get rid of Aoyama/ Fujiwara in quarterfinal – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Opening the quarterfinal of the Hansol Korea Open 2011 was unseeded team of Shuko Aoyama with Rika Fujiwara, who lost to the number two seeded team of Vera Dushevina with Galina Voskoboeva. On 21st of September 2011 the players battled it out for one hour and twenty nine minutes of the match and the last team standing was number two seeded Russian Dushevina and Kazak Galina Voskoboeva with straight sets of a 7-5, 6-4 victory.
After winning the toss, the first to open the initial set was Voskoboeva/ Dushevina who not only held their serves but also went on to breaking their opponents in the second game and then by holding their own in the third game they had taken a mini lead of 3-0.
Although it was a little late in the match, Aoyama/ Fujiwara were not ready to be putto shame and jumped back into the game in the fourth game by winning on their service game and then broke the Russian/ Kazakh duo. They again won on their serve in the sixth game and were able to equalize the score to 3-3.
In the following four games the players fought a blow for a blow and eventually tied the score at 5-5. Voskoboeva and Dushevina held their serve in the eleventh game and finally in the twelfth they got a lucky break when their opponents netted a backhand winner, which cost Aoyama/ Fujiwara the opening set.
Although the squads fought toe-for-a toe, Voskoboeva and Dushevina were able to dominate their opponents by an assertive style of play.
Opening the second set was also Voskoboeva/ Dushevina, who were successfully able to place themselves on the score board. Aoyama/ Fujiwara were also quick to come up on the score board as they too won on their service game.
By the end of the third game Voskoboeva/ Dushevina got a mini break as they held their serve and then in the seventh went on to breaking their opponents to take a lead of 3-1. However, Aoyama/ Fujiwara were also tailing behind and broke the Russian/ Kazak duo in t he following game and as they held their serve in the sixth game they were able to equalize the score to 3-3.
During the following three games the players had fought a blow for a blow but kept bagging games on alternate serves until finally Aoyama/ Fujiwara double faulted on their second serve to endorse Voskoboeva/ Dushevina with the game point.
Voskoboeva/ Dushevina kept their winning streak in both the sets and were able to clog a comprehensive victory to reserve a spot in the semi final of the event where they will be facing the Polish number four seeded duo of Klaudia Jans-Ignacik with Alicja Rosolska.
