Dustin Ackley’s triple RBIs help Seattle Mariners defeat Oakland Athletics 8-4 – MLB Update
Seattle Mariners’ second baseman, Dustin Ackley had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit three RBIs including a single run and went 2-for-4 with an average of .311 in the Mariners’ 8-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics at Safeco Field, Seattle on August
1.
Hideki Matsui reached towards third base on an infield single while Josh Willingham and Ryan Sweeney both struck-out looking and Conor Jackson lined out to left-field. Similarly, the Mariners also seemed immobilised at the bottom of the first inning as Brendan
Ryan doubled to right-field while Ichiro Suzuki lined out to centre-field and Adam Kennedy flied out.
In the second inning, Mariners got off the mark by blasting five quick runs to take an initial 5-0 lead. Franklin Gutierrez doubled to right-field and Casper Wells posted a single run. Chone Figgins added the second run on the score-board when Ryan singled
off left-field. The third, fourth and fifth runs for the Mariners were taken by Gutierrez, Ichiro Suzuki and Ryan, respectively, when Ackley drove a triple-run shot towards deep right-centre.
Athletics opened their scoring account during the third inning when Matsui hit a sacrifice fly towards centre-field and Coco Crisp scored his first run to reduce his team’s lead 5-1. However, the Mariners continued to increase their lead as they contributed
one run in the fourth inning to get a 6-1 lead. Miguel Olivo got his way to short-stop position on an infield single and Ackley added a single run at the bottom of the fourth inning.
During the fifth inning, Mariners advanced their lead 7-1 when Justin Smoak posted a single run on the wild pitch of Athletics’ reliever Jordan Norberto. The pitchers maintained their accurate line during the sixth inning and did not give away runs. Mariners’
starter, Blake Beavan pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 3.24 and surrendered three earned runs and seven hits. He permitted two walks and struck-out three batters on his 113 pitches.
In the seventh inning, the Athletics scored two runs while the Mariners posted one run to take their lead 8-3. Kurt Suzuki hit a solo homer (380 feet) towards left-field to cut the Athletics’ deficit 8-4. However, the Mariners led off the three-game series
1-0 played at Safeco Field.
