Dustin Brown crashes to Dusan Lojda in the second round – Poznan Porsche Open 2011 CH
Sixth seeded German Dustin Brown was leading a set but lost his concentration in the three setter nail biter match as he was eventually ousted by Czech Dusan Lojda after suffering a 7-5, 4-6, 3-6 defeat in the second round of the
Poznan Porsche Open 2011, a clay court tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour held in Poland on Wednesday.
Ranked 126th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Brown displayed dismal performance against Czech, ranked ninety-four places below him, in a three set thriller on their first meeting.
26-year-old German made quick in-roads in the opening set. He faced zero breakpoint and capitalised on one of the four breakpoint opportunities to his advantage in the eleventh game to seal the opener with a 7-5 win. Brown produced
a much better first serve share of 66 percent as compared to Czech’s 39 percent and earned an impressive 76 percent win on it. He also smacked four aces to sugar coat the opener.
23-year-old Lojda on the other hand kept his losing ways in the second set and lost an early serve to trail 1-3. However, he roared back by breaking Brown’s serve in the sixth game to square the scores at 3-3. The Czech then held
on to his remaining serves and broke the German’s serve again in last game to bag the equaliser with a 6-4 victory. He clobbered a lower first serve share of 47 percent as compared to Brown’s 55 percent and registered a convincing 65 percent win on it.
The seeded German kept losing momentum in the final set. He lost an early serve in the fourth game and was eventually 1-4 down. Although Brown played well in the remaining match and saved three out of four breakpoints saved, he
failed to cash in on both breakpoint opportunities to his advantage and eventually exited with disappointment from the second round of this event.
Lojda will go on to face Kazakh Yuri Schukin who trashed Italian Andrea Arnaboldi in straight sets to reach this spot.
Schukin required a single breakpoint opportunity in the opening set and which he duly converted to his advantage to bag the opener with a 6-4 score line. He faced zero breakpoint and produced a fascinating first serve share. The
Kazakh also registered a spectacular 89 percent win on it and barely broke sweat.
32-year-old kept momentum sailing into the final set and regardless of failing to save the only breakpoint conceded, he capitalised on two out of five breakpoint chances to his advantage to win the set with a 6-3 score line.
He sealed the deal in one hour and fifteen minutes and confidently advanced in the event.
