Dustin Brown devours Martin Klizan in opening round – IPP Open 2011 CH
Dustin Brown, German world No.179, ousted his opening round challenger of IPP Open 2011, Martin Klizan, world No.116, defeating the Slovakian in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in an hour and 20 minutes on hard indoor court on Tuesday,
22nd November at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
Initiating the fixture, Brown won the service toss and walked on to his side serving for the first match opener. Rolling down the scoreboard with a winner, German took the lead in the set, 1-0. Striking back right away, Klizan
turned down his side of the scoreboard winning his opening serve, 1-1.
Rallying down games, the two levelled up again at 2-2 and then on 3-3 with Brown to continue for game seven. Serving out the seventh game, the 26-year-old German went into lead, 4-3, before he bombarded the 22-year-old higher ranked
Slovak in game eight with a breakpoint and led the board, 5-3.
With just one more game left to finish off the set, Brown smashed a cross-court winner to conclude the first set with a 6-3 victory and onto set two. Winning 20 service points and 19 returners, Brown pocketed 39 in total to his
win.
Moving on with the second set, Klizan took his side to serve first in the set and rolled down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following the 22-year-old, Brown served out his first win of the set to level up the scores, 1-1. Brown overcame
his rival next as he broke Klizan in game three and followed with a service winner extending his lead from 2-1 to 3-1.
Leading the set with a comfortable two games lead, Brown put forth a concrete defence next maintaining his position in the set. Bagging games, Klizan did come close, however, was unable to break the lower ranked yet more experience
German.
Serving out games of respective serves, the two were unable to break at any point after the third game ending the set at 6-4 in favour of the German 26-year-old. Brown carried away the set with an amazing 92 percent wins from his
first serve. Adding to that, world No.179 also bagged 21 service points and 16 returners to finish off the second set with 37 points.
Adding to 37 more to the first set points, Brown totalled 76 points against 58 of Klizan to his straight set opening round win. Nevertheless the two put a strong competitive show. Brown, however, now moves into the second round
of the ATP Challenger Tour event. The rival seat would be filled up by the winner of the match between Lukas Lacko and Marko Djokovic.
