Dustin Brown rallies past Tomasz Bednarek to advance into second round – Poznan Porsche Open 2011 CH
Sixth seeded German Dustin Brown required a third set to triumph over the Polish qualifier, Tomasz Bednarek at the Poznan Porsche Open 2011, a clay court tournament held in Poland. He registered a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over the
29-year-old local star to advance into the second round on Monday.
Ranked 126th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Brown took one hour and forty minutes to overpower the local qualifier on their first meeting. He not only took lead in the head-to-head series by 1-0
against the Polish star but also secured a second round spot in this Challenger tour event.
The German made quick in-roads as he faced zero breakpoint and converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to clinch the opener with a 6-3 score line in under half hour. He committed more errors and clobbered
a drastic first serve share of 33 percent as compared to Bednarek’s 46 percent but registered a perfect win on it.
The qualifier, on the other hand, got back on track in the second set. He was never threatened at any point and capitalised on one out of two breakpoint chances to her advantage to seal the equaliser with a 6-4 victory. Bednarek
produced a slightly lower first serve share of 50 percent as opposed to Brown’s 56 percent and earned a plausible 67 percent win on it.
Both players got charged up in the final set and played their best tennis. They levelled each other out till the scores were squared at 4-4. Brown then finally succeeded in converting a breakpoint opportunity to his advantage in
the end to pocket the decider with a 6-4 win. He faced zero breakpoint and converted one out of four breakpoint chances to his advantage to help win comfortably. In addition to this, the higher ranked German earned a spectacular 87 percent win on his equal
first serve share and committed fewer double faults.
26-year-old German will next face the winner of the match between Germany’s Simon Greul and Czech Republic’s Dusan Lojda.
