Dustin Brown sails past Mikhail Elgin in the quarterfinal – IPP Open 2011
German, world number 179, Dustin Brown thrashed Russian, world number 558 Mikhail Elgin in the quarterfinal of the IPP Open 2011.
On Friday the 25th of November, world number 179 Brown took up the gauntlet against the world number 558 Elgin on hard indoor courts at Tali, Helsinki, Finland. It took German Brown just fifty five minutes to drill the Russian by driving him out
in straight sets of 6-0, 7-5.
The first round of the match was a lopsided victory for the German, world number 179 and he smashed a better first serve share of 71 percent as compared to the Russian’s 50 percent and registered an ostentatious 92 percent win of his first serves.
He not only had a good a service game but also a stunning return game, which enabled him to accomplish a 72 percent of his total return points in the opening game. Furthermore, he did not provide a single breakpoint opportunity to his opponent and instead
converted three out of four breakpoint chances to his advantage.
Winning the service toss, Elgin served for the first game but he got off to a very poor start and was unable to hold his respective serve. On the contrary, Brown not only capitalized on the game but also served out his first service game of the set and rolled
down the scoreboard with a mini lead of two games.
Elgin was unable to set his rhythm and the world number 179, Brown took advantage of that as he broke his adversary again in the third game and then held his service game to extend his lead to four games to love at the end of the fourth game. Brown was on
fire as he kept bagging not only his service games but also his adversary’s and it took the German only twenty five minutes to clog the opening set with a bagel victory.
The second set of the match was a tad difficult for the German to bag but eventually he pushed himself a little further. Elgin again opted to serve for the second round and this time he took a notch higher in his performance and bagged his opening game with
ease. Following behind him was Brown and he too held his respective service game to roll down the scoreboard beside his adversary at 1-1.
As the players matched an eye for an eye the score progressed at the same level and the score kept tied for the following eight games at five games each. From there onwards, Brown reeled two successive games and sealed his victory of the match.
Next up for the German is compatriot Daniel Brands in the semi final of the IPP Open.
