Dustin Brown sinks Lukas Lacko in second round battle – IPP Open 2011 CH
Dustin Brown, German world No.179, cleared his second round challenge of IPP Open 2011, playing against Slovak world No.113, Lukas Lacko, beating the higher ranked down with a startling comeback in set two to finish off 1-6, 6-4,
7-6(10) in an hour and 55 minutes of hard indoor circuit rallying on Thursday, 24th November at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
Making their way onto the blue hard indoor circuit, the two warmed up and followed with the service toss. Winning the service toss, Lacko took his side after winning the service toss and served out the first game of the set rolling
down the scoreboard, 1-0.
German 26-year-old made through his opening serve, winning a double game point winner and evening up the scores at 1-1. Slovakian continued with his second service game, turning down the scoreboard, 2-1, and followed with a spectacular
breakpoint winner to lead the scores, 3-1.
Unable to stop the 24-year-old Slovakian, Brown lost his third consecutive game, game five, 4-1, and went on to serve next. German could do nothing to hold his serve against the higher ranked Slovak. Lacko broke Brown in game six,
5-1, and served out game seven, finishing up the first set with a 6-1 win over the world No.179.
Continuing with set two, Brown came back a distance to put the match into a decisive situation. Serving out game one, Brown led the table, followed by Lacko levelling up right away, 1-1. The two bagged winners of respective serves
and equalled up again at 2-2, 3-3 and on 4-4 before the match went crazy.
Brown, serving for game nine, bagged the game slow and easy, however, German ignited next as he broke his rival in game ten, finishing off the set in his favour, 6-4, and levelling up the match scores, 1-1.
Moving on with the decider, Brown once again served first for the set, serving out the opening game and leading 1-0. Lacko however, followed with a win in game two and evened up right away, 1-1. Rallying down games led the two
to level up at 2-2 and then on 3-3 before the match flared up even more.
Breaking each other, one after the other, the two came on level terms once again at 4-4. Unable to breach the defences, the two held their serves and levelled up at 5-5 and then led onto a tiebreaker with Brown to take the first
serve.
Winning one after the other, the two did not give up without a battle. Levelling up at 2-2, 4-4, 6-6, 9-9, the tiebreaker itself needed some sort of breaker. However, the battle did end as Brown moulded the game to his side of
the court winning the tiebreak 12-10, the set, 7-6(10), and the match with an excellent comeback.
Through into the quarter-final stage of the ATP Challenger Tour event, Brown now moves on to play against Mikhail Elgin for the semis spot of the event.
