Dustin Johnson eyes big finishes in the 2013 golf season
After several hiccups during the 2012 golf season, Dustin Johnson of the United now eyes a big campaign in 2013, as he feels completely fit and ready to make more starts compared to the past.
Right from the beginning of the 2012 season, Johnson started suffering from injury issues. He was scheduled to participate in the PGA Tour’s season-opener Hyundai Tournament of Champions. However, he did not make the start, after feeling some pain in his
back.
Two weeks later, he participated in the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation and recorded a 72 in the first round. However, the back pain once again forced him to announce his withdrawal from the event.
Thereafter, he participated in seven tournaments, prior to facing a major setback, as he badly injured his back, while helping his friend to move his jet ski.
As a result, he had to stay out of the course for around three month. Meanwhile, he also failed to participate in the Masters Tournament, the first major golf championship of the season.
Talking to the reporters, he stated that it was really difficult for him to stay at home, without touching the golf clubs.
"Obviously you get bored. I wanted to play golf and at times I couldn't move. The competitive side in me drove me crazy because I wanted to be out there and compete and I just couldn't do it," Johnson said.
He then made a strong comeback, by winning the FedEx St. Jude Classic, his second start after he recovered from his injury.
Afterwards, he maintained consistency in his form and made it into the US Ryder Cup team. He was the only US player who remained undefeated in the tournament, which saw the US team facing a devastating defeat.
Johnson also cheered his fans by recording top-10 finishes in each of the four PGA FedEx Cup Playoffs events.
“I think the year went really well considering I missed basically the first part of it,” Johnson said. “I played real solid and was definitely happy with the year. Hopefully it will lead into having a good (2013) season”.
He now plans to keep the momentum going into the 2012 golf season, in a bid to add more goof finishes to his resume.
