Dustin Johnson continues his great form in the PGA Tour Playoffs
Following a strong finish at The Barclays with a tied third position, Dustin Johnson got off to a confident start at the second leg of the US PGA Tour Playoffs, the Deutsche Bank Championship.
He fired a four-under par 67 and shared the 10th spot, heading into the second round at TPC Boston in Norton.
Johnson played brilliantly right from the start of the 2012 PGA Tour season, as he registered six top-10 finishes in 16 starts that he has made so far. He also won the 2012 FedEx St. Jude Classic with a one-stroke margin over John Merrick.
Entering the second phase of the Playoffs, he ranked seventh in the FedEx Cup points list. He now has the chance of improving his standings by displaying a consist game in the remaining three rounds.
“I played good last week, had a good, solid finish, and hopefully this week -- I got off to a good start, which is all you want to do, and then maybe get out there tomorrow and put another good number up,” he said. “But out here you've got to shoot a good
score on a day like today”.
He started off his round on the back nine of the course and posted three birdies for a three-under par score.
Another two birdies against a lone bogey allowed him to trail the leader Seung-Yul Noh by five strokes. Noh fired a bogey-free nine-under par 62, to take a one-stroke lead over Chris Kirk.
Overall, Johnson seemed happy with his performance, especially for the pars that he saved after wayward tee shots.
“I hit a lot of good shots out there, missed a couple opportunities, but all in all, played pretty well,” Johnson said. “I got in trouble a couple times off the tee, but I managed to save pars or whatever. …All in all, played pretty well today. I hit a lot
of good iron shots”.
Nick Watney, the leading player in the FexCup standings and the winner of last week’s The Barclays, tied for the 74th spot, after signing his scorecard with a one-over par 72.
