Dustin Johnson departs from Humana Challenge
Injuries of different types have always posed serious threats to the performances of players, irrespective of which sport they belong to.
In most of the cases, these injuries are intended to absorb the element of entertainment from the game, as they target some big names and ultimately result in their departure.
This time it is the American golfer, Dustin Johnson, who has faced the music in the form of his withdrawal from the Humana Challenge.
With five PGA Tour wins already added to his career, this was the perfect opportunity for Johnson to gain the breakthrough of his career that he was long looking for.
Unfortunately, it was because of his repeated complains of back pain that led to his spontaneous departure from the tournament.
It is also important to mention here that the news of his departure has come at a time when the Challenge is already half-way through.
Moreover, Johnson was already able to complete his first nine holes in the event at La Quinta Country Club when he began to show symptoms of a severe back pain.
Currently placed as World’s No. 8, it was the perfect opportunity for the 27-year-old golfer to surge his ranking, as he was regarded as a high-ranked competitor in the Palm Springs event taking place this week.
So far, he was performing well, which can be testified from the fact that he even shot an even-par 72 on the Palmer Course, just two days back in the event.
According to pundits, it is not the first time Johnson has faced such a situation. Earlier, he underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, just a few months back, in November.
It was precisely because of surgical side-effects, he began to face intense pain in his back, making it stiff and difficult to bend.
However, this is the first time in his career that an injury has forced him to withdraw his name from the rest of the tournament.
Owing to the injury, his presence at the Hawaii Open is also in doldrums. Nonetheless, he is certain about playing the Farmers Insurance, starting from next week, taking place at Torrey Pines.
