Dustin Johnson dumps his caddie after the Masters
Dustin Johnson, in a surprise move, has decided to dump his caddie Bobby Brown who has been carrying golfer’s bag for the past three years. Johnson has fared badly in his last few appearances in high profile tournaments, probably owning to his caddie’s misadventures.
Johnson, who was leading with three shots in the US Open last year, ended up with a mind boggling 82, the highest score by a player in the US Open in 100 years. He later, not knowing that he has landed in a bunker at the Whistling Straits, grounded his club
and was penalized for two shots, which eventually kept him out of the Playoff hole.
The worst of Johnson came out at Riviera this year when the golfer did not show up for the tee times. Johnson later disclosed that Brown had given him wrong tee times. He was again penalized for two shots and was just 10 seconds away from a disqualification.
Johnson has not spoken over the break up, however, his agent David Winkle from the Hambric Sports Management has issued an email regarding the issue saying, "They just decided to take a break for a while,"
Brown, who has apparently close connections within Johnson’s family said, "There's no bad blood between him and me, we are very cool with each other and will remain very close. We're like brothers."
Brown has also been reported to be dating Johnson’s girlfriend’s twin sister and both golfer and the caddie spent most of their time together off course. Johnson will be heading straight into the next week’s Ballantine’s Championship and will be playing
alongside his new caddie. The new vacancy has already been filled but Winkle refrained from disclosing the name of the new caddie.
"This isn't about finding a replacement as quickly as possible," Winkle said. "It's about finding the right person." He referred to the new caddie as “more than qualified."
Johnson finished joint 38th in last week’s Masters. He is considered as one of sport’s top young players and like Tiger Woods, he went over to win consecutively on his first three years on PGA Tour. Brown used to caddie for Eric Axley before he
was asked by Johnson to work for him.
