Dustin Johnson leads after third round of the Cadillac Championship – Golf news
Dustin Johnson was in the lead after the third round of the $8.5 million-Cadillac Championship with a score of 7-under par 65 while Luke Donald followed him in second place.
The second leg of the World Golf Championships is nearing its end and coincidently the weather is getting pleasant day by day. The tournament kicked off in inclement weather conditions, but it became cloudy and warm on Saturday. The field took advantage
of the conditions and produced some fine scoring to jam the leaderboard on the top.
Dustin Johnson fired a round of 7-under-par 65 with the help of eight birdies and one bogey. He finished third in driving distance and eighth in Green Hits in Regulation.
He was followed by the Luke Donald- the man who won the first leg of the World Golf Championships recently. Donald teed off from the front and hammered the first birdie on the opening hole. He reeled three more in later holes and capped the first half with
a score of four-under par.
On the back, Donald fired two back-to-back birdies starting from the tenth hole and hammered one more on the 14th before falling in a trap on the closing hole. He topped the Green Hits in Regulation stats with an average of 79.8 per cent.
The Englishman is bidding to lift the trophy for the fourth time. Johnson has already won the title thrice in the 11-year history of the Championship. Apart from winning the title, he is now part of the rank war, but apparently he seems less concerned about
it.
He told the press, “I'm certainly playing very good golf right now, some of the best I've ever played. So as I said, I don't really take too much notice of the World Rankings. It would be great to get to that No. 1 spot and it certainly is very attainable
right now, just how close the points are.”
Donald was joined by Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney after they scored 68 each in the third round. Watney aced the opening hole, double-bogeyed the closing and reeled five birdies in between.
