Dustin Johnson misses HP Byron Nelson Championship, will return at the Memorial Tournament – Golf News
Dustin Johnson is getting ready to get back to action through the Memorial Tournament at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, slated to start from Thursday, May 31, 2012.
Johnson has not been able to compete in any of the professional golf tournament since he played the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship, in March, 2012.
He was forced to stay out of the course after he suffered a back injury while lifting a Jet Ski right before the Masters Tournament.
As a result, he started moving down in the FedExCup standings, and he currently holds the 67th rank and 21st spot in the Ryder Cup standings.
He announced to miss the HP Byron Nelson Championship, as he believes that a couple of more weeks will allow his injury to completely recover and his body will return to its original shape.
“Obviously, I can't wait to get back out and compete,” Johnson said in a statement from his management company. “I came into this year with some big goals, including making our Ryder Cup team, so I've got some serious ground to make up this summer”.
“It will be great to get back out there, and I can assure you I'll be plenty motivated,” he added.
Johnson has been facing the injury issue since the start of the 2012 golf season. In the very second event of the 2012 PGA Tour season, the Humana Challenge, he was forced to withdraw during the second round following the citation of the pain in his back.
The pain escalated in the following weeks and he had to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational too.
At that time, he decided to take a week off in order to get completely fit for the Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club.
However, he was unlucky, as the Jet Ski incident happened just a weekend before the tournament began.
This time, he has skipped the HP Byron Nelson Championship for the complete recovery and he is confident to give his 100 per cent in the upcoming events.
“I’m feeling better every day and working hard, so I plan to be 100 percent ready by the time the Memorial rolls around,” Johnson said. “I’m still a little rusty, but it’s falling off in chunks”.
