Dustin Johnson says Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will need time to hit form – Golf news
Dustin Johnson says Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will need time to get back into form.
Johnson is the 14th seed in the world and the way he is playing golf, it seems he will be sitting in the top most section of the rankings soon. The Californian smashed 65 on the greens that were hardening up after every hour at the TPC Blue Monster.
When he was asked about former world number one Woods and former number two Mickelson, he said, “When you talk about Tiger and Phil, they are always going to be in the mix, maybe not every week, but they are going to be in the mix because they are great
players. They have been great players for a long time. But there's a lot of good young players coming up right now that you are going to see at the top of the leaderboard a lot.”
Woods opened the tournament with a 70 with three birdies and one bogey amidst inclement weather conditions. Critics held weather as the culprit, but similar performance was seen in the second round where the 35-year-old compiled a scorecard of 74.
On Saturday, the current world number five put away the Scotty Cameron back in the bag and took out the Nike Putter, which did no good to his game. Woods picked four birdies against two bogeys and took a share in the top 30.
Woods, extremely disappointed with his constant failures, left the course without addressing the media.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Mickelson picked five birdies, but dropped shots at the 4th, 11th and 13th holes before falling for a double bogey on the immediate hole. However, unlike Woods he managed to par equal the score and
finished tied at the 42nd spot with Jim Furyk and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
Woods has not won a title since 15 months, while Mickelson’s winless spell dates back to April 2010. Let’s see if the two veterans prove Johnson wrong in the coming days.
