Dustin Johnson shrugs off Drug suspension allegations ahead of his comeback at the Memorial
It has been almost two months that the world number 20 Dustin Johnson has been away from the course and the golf critics and the press have been little less than merciful on his burgeoning injury.
Johnson, who suffered a drastic knee injury during a snow boarding accident last year, has been laid off from mainstream golf for a considerable period of time.
He decided to return for the first major event of the year the Masters in April but withdrew before hand, triggering rumours that Johnson has been suspended by the tour for a few months.
The reason cited was the drug abuse by the rampaging American golfer, although no proof of the same was provided.
Johnson, however, has finally broken his silence over the issue and denied the existence of any such suspension which would have barred him from playing on the tour.
He said, "I had knee surgery, and then I rehabbed that, and really, that went really well, and then to have a back injury was pretty frustrating. People talk all the time, so people make stuff up, especially when I'm not out here I guess they use their imagination
a little too much. I've just got to be kind of careful of stuff you're doing and just kind of pay attention to what you're doing, especially as I'm getting older”.
Johnson who has the accolade of winning in all starting three years of his career, seconded by only Tiger Woods, played splendid golf the previous season.
He recorded a runner up finish in the Open Championship at Royal St. Georges alongside Phil Mickelson.
He also won the Barclays on the FedExCup challenge and has done remarkably well since the start of his career.
For the moment, the 27-year-old Johnson is shrugging off the rust gathered from a two-month period which he has spent off course and insists that he is in top-form and ready to go.
He added, "I really didn't touch a club for five, six weeks”.
Johnson insists that his short game has improved tremendously and is quite satisfied with his swing off the tee.
The raging American golfer will be making a comeback at Memorial this week after his last appearance on the PGA Tour in March when he played at the WGC-Cadillac Championship
