Dustin Johnson takes lead at Cadillac Championship: round three recap – part 2
World-number seven Paul Casey and world-number one Martin Kaymer were tied at the 14th spot with a score of six-under par. Casey who won the Volvo Golf Champions on the tough terrains of the UAE, failed to comprehend the course and seemed unsuccessful
in all three rounds. He rarely attacked the pin and played safely throughout the session.
Meanwhile, Kaymer who claimed the throne of world-number one two weeks back opened the round with a birdie, but fell immediately in a trap at the third hole where he carved a double bogey. The German tried to counter off the loss by attacking the pin on
the fifth green, but failed. The attempt to putt for a par changed into a chip from the rough and carved another bogey. Kaymer disappointed with his putting walked to the back with rare motivation. He birdied two of the holes and wrapped the round at 2-over
par 74.
On the other hand, the conqueror of St Andrews, Louis Oosthuizen, improved folds since the start of the tournament. The South African chose the front as his battleground because the greens were considerably softer there. He took advantage of the course layout
and reeled five birdies with three back-to-back starting from the third hole. Oosthuizen tried implementing the same strategy in the back, but without success. He picked one birdie in the start and one on the 16th hole before capping the round with
two bogeys.
He was joined by Ryo Ishikawa of Japan. The poster boy of Japan stepped into the tournament with a scorching 65 but failed to maintain his pace. He carved 76 in the second and 70 in the third round. The 19-year-old birdied three holes in the front and left
the rest of them for the par.
Eight strokes behind the leader stood a group, which included PGA Rookie of the year Rickie Fowler, Ernie Els and Jonathan Vegas.
Although the three players gave similar performance, one of them was extremely happy with his visit to Florida. Vegas, who hails from Venezuela, received a warm welcome by his fans, while he was having lunch at a local restaurant. The player tweeted a picture
of the meal he was having at the restaurant and soon he was surrounded by a group of fans who recognized the restaurant through the picture.
The player was overwhelmed with the warm gesture and in return, he smashed a 69 on Saturday. He narrated the entire incident in front of the press the other day and said, “Lots of Venezuelans live here so you get that warm feeling of being at home. It is
exciting to see the support of the community around here. I know where I come from and I know how hard it is to get to where I am. That’s why I’m so passionate about it.”
Meanwhile, PGA Champion Els, was extremely disappointed with his game. The South African bogeyed four holes against three birdies and capped the round at 1-over par 73. On the other hand, his compatriot Retief Goosen expressed hope for the coming round.
The player picked six birdies against two early bogeys and compiled an aggregate of three-under par.
