Dustin Johnson takes the lead at Cadillac Championship - Round 3 updates
Dustin Johnson hit a round of 65 to take the lead in the third round of the $8.5 million-Cadillac Championship taking place at the TPC Blue Monster in Doral.
Johnson stepped into the final round as the leader and hence he is extremely confident about the coming round. The temporary leader said, while addressing the media, “I'm going to have to play well. It is going to take another good round. I played well today,
drove it well, putt it well, hit the ball well; so I'm going to have to do that again tomorrow."
Johnson, also known as the King of Bunkers, took advantage of the pleasant weather conditions to surge into lead. He teed off in the morning, reeled three birdies in the front and five in the back. The lanky Californian fired his first birdie on the par-4
second hole, with the help of a 3-iron on the fairway. The magnificent shot left him a few inches away from the pin, which he easily putted for a point.
The golfer who missed the chance at the PGA Championship after he grounded the club in a bunker to be disqualified, had fifty-percent success rate in sand saves. Johnson drove the tee shot several times into the bunkers, but got out of them safely. His skills
to deal with the bunkers are increasing day after day and it is evident from the way he wedged his way out of the bunker on the fifth fairway. Johnson saved par when it almost became evident that he will not be successful in doing so.
On the seventh hole, Johnson hammered a 12-footer towards the hole and claimed the second birdie of the day. He birdied the immediate hole to surge five positions up on the leader board, but encountered a bogeyman on the par-3 ninth and capped the front
with a score of two-under par.
The real action was seen on the back, when Johnson birdied the opening hole, while chipping from a sand trap. The player took out a sand wedge from his bag and carefully lifted the ball out of the bunker, while directing it into the cup on the tenth green.
The vigilant reaction from the American boosted his confidence, which helped him in birdying four more holes and surging into a two-stroke lead over Luke Donald.
