Dustin Johnson’s shot nearly kills camera operator
Dustin Johnson hit a tremendous shot in the first round of the Cadillac Championship, which nearly killed a camera operator standing atop a crane.
The camera operator was covering the event at the TBC Blue Monster golf course and suddenly saw a golf ball, struck by Johnson, coming towards him.
The operator found nowhere to run and accepted that the ball would hit him badly. “Oh sweet heaven that ball is coming right for me and I got nowhere to run,” the operator said in a hurry.
The 27-year-old American professional golfer was playing on the par-5 twelfth hole and lifted the ball too high.
The ball had reached the camera operator crane but he ducked down and saved himself from being hit.
“I bet Dustin Johnson couldn't do that again with 50 shots. I'm not, however, willing to get up in the crane and be the target to test that theory,” the operator further said.
This was an amazing shot by the Presidents Cup, US team member. It was never seen in the history that a golfer’s stroke reached near the crane. The reason again includes the position of the camera crane, which is really very high.
No one has hit a ball that high, but Johnson did it. However, there was a bogey on the twelfth hole, but this stroke was the most appealing one of the tournament so far.
At the end of the first round, Johnson recorded a 3-over par and was tied for the 54th position on the leaderboard. He scored three birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey overall.
Adam Scott and Jason Dufner were the proud leaders of the round played on Thursday at the TPC Blue Monster, Doral Miami in Florida.
They both were 6-under 66 and displayed amazing performance by leading over the others.
Johnson finished nine strokes behind the leaders and now there is a long way for him to compete for the title, as his scoring is not attractive at all.
The first round was tough for most of the players of the field. Hence, players will be striving hard in the second round, starting from 7 am on Friday, to secure a better place on the leaderboard.
