Dustin Pedroia homers but Boston Red Sox lose to Toronto Blue Jays 5-7 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Toronto Blue Jays 5-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, September 7 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Red Sox’s starter Felix Doubront looked very uncomfortable on the mound as he gave up six hits and five runs in just four innings to take his eighth loss of the season. Relief pitchers Clayton Mortensen, Chris Carpenter and Rich Hill combined to pitch three
scoreless innings but the Red Sox were unable to cross the winning line.
"It's just unfortunate we can't get anything going in the right direction," Red Sox shortstop Mike Aviles said in an interview.
Edwin Encarnacion, Moises Sierra and Yunel Escobar displayed some top quality batting skills to give Blue Jays a handsome 5-0 lead. Dustin Pedroia grounded into fielder’s choice to third in the fifth and smacked a home-run to left in the eighth but his effort
did not prove to be sufficient.
"We're trying to come out and play winning baseball," said Dustin Pedroia, who hit a solo homer. "We haven't played well the last few weeks, basically the last couple of months. We have to find a way to put a good game together and build on it."
"We couldn't find a way to get runs early," he further added. "We scored some runs late but we need to do a better job of putting some runs on the board."
Considering the fact the game was played at Fenway Park, the Red Sox were the firm favourites to emerge victorious but Blue Jays had other ideas. Showing great batting skills, the offence stacked up a decent total on the board.
Red Sox put up a decent fight to stay to their credit but the Blue Jays were too strong to be overcome on Friday. Manager Bobby Valentine will be disgusted with what he has seen from the Red Sox this year. Surely, he will be looking to make some changes
in the batting and pitching line-ups to turn things around in the next season.
