Dustin Pedroia sparks as Boston Red Sox defeat Kansas City Royals 13-9 - MLB Update

Boston Red Sox’ second baseman, Dustin Pedroia had a remarkable day with the bat as he posted three runs with a single RBI and went 4-for-5 in the Red Sox 13-9 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park, Boston on July 26.
The Royals scored two runs at the top of the first while the Red Sox also added two runs during the first inning to tie the game 2-2 from the beginning. Eric Hosmer doubled to deep centre-field and Miguel Cabrera scored a single run. The second run for the
Royals was taken by Billy Butler when Jeff Francoeur hit a sacrifice fly to left-field.
Adrian Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly towards left-field and Darnell McDonald posted the first run for the Red Sox. Pedroia contributed a tie run when David Ortiz doubled off left-field. In the second inning, the Royals scored two runs to go-ahead 4-2 when
Butler hit a ground rule double to deep right-field while Mike Aviles and Matt Treanor both posted two run jointly.
In the third inning, the Red Sox batters blasted three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Marco Scutaro added a single run on the drive of Pedroia towards left-field while Gonzalez and Pedroia both put the second and third run on the score-board when Ortiz hit a double-run
shot towards deep centre-field.
Royals again went ahead by scoring three runs at the top of the fourth inning while the Red Sox were able to add up just one run at the bottom of the fourth inning to reduce their lead 7-6. Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer (421 feet) to centre-field and Alcides
Escobar posted one run. Butler added the third run for the Royals by hitting a solo homer (435 feet) towards left-centre.
Gonzalez scored one run for the Red Sox in the fourth inning when Carl Crawford walked and Pedroia occupied third base. Later on, the Red Sox batters smashed six runs in the fifth inning to accelerate their lead 12-7. Jacoby Ellsbury, Drew Sutton, Gonzalez,
Scutaro, Josh Reddick and Pedroia each singled to complete a six-run campaign.
Jason Varitek homered (404 feet) towards left-field to give the Red Sox a 13-7 lead during the seventh inning. Hosmer and Francoeur scored two collective runs for the Royals to cut their deficit 13-9 in the ninth inning.
With this impressive victory, the Red Sox tied the four-game series 1-1 played at Boston.
