Dustin Pedroia’s exploits help Boston Red Sox defeat Los Angeles Angels 9-5 – MLB Update
Dustin Pedroia put in a good performance to help Boston Red Sox defeat Los Angeles Angels 9-5 at Fenway Park, Boston on Monday, May 2.
Pedroia successfully fouled off nine pitches of the 13-pitch at-bat against an otherwise apparently invincible Jered Weaver. Pedroia’s feat then led to two-run single that culminated in Boston’s victory against Los Angeles Angels.
Dustin undoubtedly won a lot of praise from Clay Buchholz who himself was increasingly good with his effective fastballs. “That was awesome,” Buchholz said of Pedroia's key hit. "That was the turn of the game for sure. It just shows you what kind of player
he is. He's up there, he didn't give in, fouled off some really good pitches from probably one of the best pitchers in the game right now."
Monday night’s game began with Kevin Youkilis’ first inning run that gave a 1-0 lead to Boston. The lead was followed by a shut-out inning by Buchholz. However, the Angels levelled the score in the third inning when Bobby Abreu scored the first run for his
team.
The Angels took their lead to 2-1 when Abreu scored the second run in the fifth inning on Buchholz’s fastball. The Red Sox came back hard this time to not only reverse the Angels’ lead but also take an advantage over them by taking the score up 3-2. It was
none other than Pedroia who made it possible.
Consecutive nine fouls not only frustrated Weaver who was hardly making any sense of what was happening, but also helped Pedroia to put his team on the winning front. The Red Sox did not look back after that especially when they went on rampage to score
six more runs in the seventh inning. Adrian Gonzalez, Youkilis and David Ortiz, each scored two-runs to give an ultimate 9-2 lead to Boston.
Los Angeles tried their level best to get back into the game with their concerted efforts. Vernon Wells brought the lead down to 9-4 with his two-runs on Dan Wheeler’s seemingly vulnerable fastball. However, Wheeler did not let any other hitter to go hard
against him. The ninth inning was effectively Boston’s when Wheeler restricted the Angels to one run to win a 9-5 victory.
It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox can carry their winning momentum into their next game. The Angels put in a good performance, but it was not enough to take a victory.
