Dutch Christel Boeljon wins the 2011 Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya – Golf news
Christel Boeljon of Netherlands made her way to her first solo victory on the Ladies European Tour by winning the 2011 Turkish Airlines Ladies Open.
The player won a prize of $37,550 in the event authorities appreciated as a well organised and smooth event. The weather was a big obstacle as the ladies teed off in Antalya. Late Friday, the tournament was interrupted and some players could not finish their
second round. The game resumed in a very organised manner next day and all the players got a fair chance to golf.
Christel posted an even par in the final round and finished at five under 287. Boeljon won by three strokes over Becky Brewerton and Florentyna Parker. Both Parker and Brewerton did not really put up a strong fight in the final round as they both carded
two over 75s in the final round. Talented golfer Melissa Reid posted a one under par 72 in the final round and finished at fourth place.
The fact that one other golfer really challenged Boeljon aided her in the struggle for victory. Boeljon carded three birdies in her first four holes and had a comfortable lead early in the final round. The final round by Christel was a bumpy one as she made
four birdies and a birdie around the turn. Making a birdie on the 16th hole, Boeljon bogeyed the last two. The good thing for her was that no one was in contention or all these final round bogies would have cost her dearly.
“I love a course to demand you to be good all round: the long game, the short game, the putting. I wish we could play here every week,” said Boeljon. “You need to be straight off the tee and think around the course; not just hit it anywhere. You have to
have a game plan and you have to be straight. I think my game, people say it's quite boring, but I hit it pretty straight and I don't do silly things. It suits me. I love these tight courses and the tougher it gets, the better I seem to play.”
